| Summer Ski Camps 2008 Review |
Camp #1 Summary MSRT had five days of amazing free skiing. The athletes worked on their stance and balance for the majority of the camp. We skied Zig Zag Canyon over and over again. The group also enjoyed a hike to Tamanawas Falls, a competitive soccer game, and a family style BBQ at Ed and Leala Harris's house.
Camp #2 Summary MSRT spent eight days training with Quantum Sports Club (Breckenridge, CO). We had perfect weather and perfect snow conditions. The athletes did a great job and their hard work will pay off next season.
Mini Camp #1 Summary MSRT athletes returned to Mt Hood for four day of GS training. We were fortunate enough to train with Kitt Flowers from Iced Out (Summit County, CO). The weather and the snow cooperated and we were able to have four high volume days.

June 9th We free skied slalom on the Mile. Stance and balance were the key fundamentals our athletes were working on. After skiing we enjoyed lunch at the Tichy House followed by a 3 mile hike up to Mirror Lake.
June 10th Unfortunately we were rained out. The team went into Sandy to enjoy a movie and then played a great game of soccer.
June 11th The sun came back out and we had an extremely productive day of free skiing. All the athletes are testing next years equipment. The snow was hard and fast. After skiing we traveled back to Sandy for conditioning and a BBQ at Ed and Leala Harris's house.
June 12th We free skied slalom on Palmer. The snow was good and we enjoyed our days skiing above the clouds. The young athletes are making good progress in their stance and balance. We also discovered that shorter slalom skis are better.
June 13th It was our last day on snow and we were greeted with sunshine and strong winds. Once again the snow was in excellent condition.
June 16th The weather challenged us but we managed to train slalom from 7:00-12:00 on Palmer. The snow was firm, the sun was out, and the winds were high. After skiing we ran our annual Summit Sprint. Our athletes are getting tougher and tougher every year.
June 17th Once again we had high winds and cold temperatures. Most of our athletes hung in there and we had a good day of training stubbies and gates. The group played an epic game of ultimate in the afternoon.
June 18th The sun came out and the winds died down. We had a productive day of slalom training on Palmer. After skiing we drove to Sandy for a plyo and interval workout on the local track. Everyone worked hard. Dinner was at Ed and Leala's house. Everything was great especially the locally grown strawberries.
June 19th This was our fourth day of slalom. We went back to shorter drill courses to continue our progression. In the afternoon we enjoyed an easy three mile hike up to Mirror Lake.
June 20th The younger athletes took the day off and the older athletes went up on the hill for their first day of GS. Our coach to athletes ration was 1:4. It was an extremely productive day. The entire group enjoyed an afternoon game of ultimate frisbee.
June 21st The older athletes took the day off and the younger ones went up on the hill for their first day of GS. Once again our coach to athlete ration was 1:4. The group traveled to Portland for pizza and a movie. It was an enjoyable afternoon off.
June 22nd The sun came out and the snow was excellent for our second day of GS training. MSRT played Steamboat in a game of ultimate frisbee. MSRT won.
June 23rd The coaches set a 20 gate GS and put the timing in the ground. Most athletes had 8 timed runs. Once again, the group traveled to Welches to enjoyed an easy afternoon of soccer and ultimate frisbee.
June 24th A huge cloud surrounded Mt Hood. Visibility was less than 25 feet. We were unable to ski.
July 5th Travel day from McCall to Mt Hood.
July 6th We had a great first day of GS training. There were no crowds and the salt worked well. After skiing we joined the Tichy Camp for a game of capture the flag.
July 7th Another excellent day of GS training. We set a 20 gate course on lane 12. The US Development Team was training next to us. Our athletes had the afternoon off.
July 8th We skied top to bottom GS. The athletes are making tremendous improvements. Rise line and exit lines brushes were set to help with their tactics. After skiing we went to Welches for some agility work and a game of soccer.
July 9th The last day of our first mini camp. We had top to bottom GS with timing. The athletes took five timed runs. This was the perfect way to end the camp. After skiing we packed up and headed home.
July 20th We had low clouds on our first day. The athletes skied short section of stubbies and gates. We spent the majority of the day working on tactics. After skiing we hiked to Mirror Lake.
July 21st We were unable to ski due to weather. Our team loaded up the Suburban and traveled to Portland to see Body Worlds at OMSI.
July 22nd The weather broke and we had a solid day of slalom training. After skiing we drove to Welches for a game of football.
July 23rd The athletes made huge progress in four short days. We set up timing in a 10 gate stubby course and took 5 runs. After the 5th run we moved the timing to a 20 gate course. Everyone did a great job. After skiing we loaded up the suburban and drove back to McCall.
August 2nd Travel to Mt Hood
August 3rd We trained GS on lane #11. The sun was out and the snow was excellent. After training we drove to Welches for a game of ultimate frisbee.
August 4th We trained GS on lane #7. Some athletes had 12 timed runs on a 20 gate course. Once again the sun was out and the snow was hard. After training we drove to Welches for a short session of agility and flexibility.
August 5th We trained GS on lane #7. It was another productive day with some of our athletes getting up to 12 timed runs. After training we went on an moderate hike up the Summit.
August 6th We trained GS on lane #9. The athletes took 6 timed runs and then headed down the mountain. We packed up the house and drove to McCall.
August 23rd Drive to Mt Hood.
August 24th We skied under clear blue skies and hard snow. The day was spent working on stance, balance, and slalom tactics using only stubbies. After training we hiked to the top of the ridge above Mirror Lake. The views of Mt Hood, Mt Adams, Mt Rainier, Mt St. Helens, and Mt Jefferson were spectacular.
August 25th We trained slalom on good snow and and blue skies. Short sections of stubbies and gates with timing. The athletes had the afternoon off.
August 26th We continued our progression in slalom. Increasing the length and difficulty of courses. After training we drove to Sandy to enjoy a movie. Kat cooked an amazing BBQ for dinner. All of us celebrated the end of summer training with a Huck shakes.
August 27th The athletes had 4 timed runs on a full length course on Palmer. We pulled early, loaded the suburban, and drove back to McCall.

J5 Camp Summary MSRT held it third annual J5 camp at Mt Hood. It was another successful camp for our young athletes. They had the opportunity to test next years equipment, work on basic stance and balance fundamentals, and get a feel for the summer camp atmosphere. Many of these athletes will move on to the 10 day J4 camp next year.
MSRT will host a J5 camp next summer at Mt Hood.

Camp #1 Summary MSRT held is 4th annual summer camp at Mt Hood. This nine day camp was a huge success. We skied four days of GS, took a day off, and then skied four days of slalom. The athletes worked hard on their basic stance and balance. As the camp progressed we changed the focus to tactics. We spent days on edging and pressuring above the gate. Each day of training was followed up with a two hour conditioning session, video analysis of the days training, and a team meeting.

Mini Camp #1 Summary MSRT had its first Mini Camp at Mt Hood in July. The team gathered for four days of intense GS training. Quantum Sports Club, from Breckenridge Colorado, joined MSRT for the four days. We shared facilities, food, training courses, and conditioning. Training with another team added to the competitive spirit of the MSRT athletes.

Mini Camp #2 Summary The McCall Ski Racing Team completed its second four day mini camp at Mt Hood. The team focused on slalom during the four day camp. The athletes shared housing and training with Quantum Sports Club, from Breckenridge Colorado. Ski and boot testing, weight training, video analysis, and team meetings filled each afternoon. This was a great opportunity for our athletes.
