Alex A. Homaechevarria, M.D.
As a native of Boise with strong family and cultural ties to the community I have grown to appreciate the active lifestyle that embodies the people of this region. I have concentrated my medical training on the ability to accurately diagnose and safely return my patients as quickly as possible to their highly physical and active ways of life.

I received my medical doctorate from the University of Utah earning honors in Surgery and Family Practice. Following my Residency in Family Practice I completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at "TOSH" the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, and the University of Utah. During my Fellowship, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to care for members of the US Ski and Speedskating Teams, University Varsity athletes and serve as a physician at the Park City Resort Ski Clinic.

Currently I serve as Team Physician for Bishop Kelly High School, medical staff for the annual Women's Challenge cycling race, Park City Resort Ski Clinic and most importantly, the ever present Team "Doc" for my two daughter's local soccer teams.

My wife Stephanie and I relish in the exceptional recreation opportunities Idaho has to offer. We love the skiing, hiking and biking that Boise provides. Our two daughters keep us busy with a full schedule of soccer, dancing and always planning our next family outing.

As a Board Certified and Fellowship trained Sports Medicine physician I strive to provide optimal care to patients with musculoskeletal and non-operative orthopedic conditions. I specialize in pediatric and adult sports injuries, back pain, shoulder and knee injuries and fracture management. The care I provide my patients compliments the comprehensive orthopedics offered by Intermountain Orthopedics.

Erik Heggland, M.D.
One might say that my medical career got its start during many icy cold days as a ski patroller with my father and brothers in Minnesota. It was those experiences that led me to aspire to pursue a career in medicine. After leaving the forests of northern Minnesota, I attended college at the University of Notre Dame. There my family's values of hard work, compassion for and fairness to one's fellow man, athleticism, and thirst for knowledge were reinforced. Following a brief stint living and working in Scandinavia, I returned to Minnesota to complete my medical degree at the University of Minnesota. My Orthopaedic Surgery training took place at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, one of the top Orthopaedic Surgery centers in the nation. Thereafter, I had the distinct privilege of completing a fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. During my year of training in Birmingham, I had the opportunity to hone my skills in Sports Medicine - both the non-operative care of athletes and complex surgical reconstructions. The American Sports Medicine Institute, with Dr.'s Andrews and Clancy, afforded me the opportunity to work with patients who ranged from local amateurs to world-class athletes. I am Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, and a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, as well as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Upon completion of my training, I began my practice with a multi-specialty medical group in Wisconsin. During my tenure there I functioned as the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Orthopaedics at my hospital, amongst other administrative appointments.

My wife's career has brought us to the Treasure Valley, and I now have the honor of joining the most highly trained and progressive group of Orthopaedic Surgeons in the State of Idaho. I look forward to offering you the excellent care that Intermountain Orthopedics has come to be known for throughout the region.

My wife Sara, a professor of Biology at Albertson College of Idaho, and I both thoroughly enjoy the mountains and high deserts of Idaho. Together with our Rhodesian Ridgeback, Einar, we enjoy back packing, hiking, fly-fishing, mountain biking, nordic and alpine skiing. We hope to see you on the trail!
Kurt J. Nilsson, M.D.
Dr. Nilsson completed medical school at the University of Utah and residency in family medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. Prior to moving to Boise, he spent three years with the Indian Health Service in Chinle, Arizona, Navajo Nation, where he was director of EMS and oversaw quality improvement in hospital advanced life support services. He and his wife relocated to Boise in 2003, where he completed a master's degree in exercise science at BSU and a fellowship in Sports Medicine with Intermountain Orthopaedics.

Dr. Nilsson has a clinical interest and training in pediatric sports medicine and a research interest in cardiac physiology in adolescent athletes. Together with the other sports medicine providers at Intermountain Orthopaedics, he is active in community outreach, providing medical support and coverage for Kuna High School, Albertson College of Idaho, Tamarack and Bogus Basin ski patrols, and the US Ski and Snowboard Association, among others. He also participates actively in research projects at the Intermountain Orthopaedics Center for Orthopaedic and Biomechanics Research at Boise State University. His practice focuses on non-operative treatment for sports injuries, fracture management, and back pain in children and adults.
